Upcoming Fun

16 Mar

As usual, Richmond.com is doing a great job keeping us informed of bike-related stuff going on in the city.  My job in this case is just to pass the word in case you didn’t catch the info on that site.  Here are the basics:

1) Pedal Power 2012 is this Saturday, 3/17.  Two-person teams compete by pedaling their bikes on special trainers to see how much electricity you can generate.  Organized by Pedal Power, a group the promotes energy sustainability, the aim is to show “how hard it is to generate power and generates electricity that powers the event, including music and cook-tops.”  1717 Summit Avenue (Richmond Cycling Corps headquarters).  $22.50 per person.  Swag, beer, and sandwiches cooked with the generated power included, not to mention coaching from Cycling Corps staff.

2) New mountain-biking and hiking trails at Dogwood Dell in Bryd Park are opening this weekend. Check them out!  Richmond MORE will soon be looking for volunteers to help construct the new skills area on Belle Isle.

3) The New Belgium Brewery Urban Assault event is coming up Sunday 3/25.  This is an urban bicycle scavenger hunt/obstacle course.  You and a partner ride to various checkpoints in the city and complete crazy tasks at each one.  I hear adult-sized big wheels are to be expected, not to mention some tasty beer for those of you old enough.  Ride starts at Kanawaha Plaza at 9 a.m.  Registration $30-60 per person, swag and after-party included.  Proceeds will benefit Richmond MORE and Richmond Cycling Corps.
