Cannon Creek Greenway Ride

2 May

This Saturday, May 5, there will be a ceremonial ribbon cutting and short ride to Shockoe Bottom and back to celebrate the completion of the first .4 mile section of the Cannon Creek Greenway Bicycle and Pedestrian path, which will eventually stretch about 2 miles along a ravine that was previously used as an unofficial dumping ground.  Meet at the VA National Guard Armory, 500 Dove Street (intersection of Dove and the Richmond-Henrico Turnpike) at 10:00 a.m., or join up with some of the RideRichmond folks at the VCU compass at 9:30 and ride together over to the greenway.

Speaking of infrastructure, there was a nice piece in the RTD today about the new mountain bike skills course being constructed on Belle Isle, and about Richmond Cycling Corps, which will get some very good use out of the facility.  The footage of the kids from RCC competing in a mountain biking race gives you a good idea of the value of this organization’s work.  See the story here.
