Richmond’s Bike-Ped Coordinator Jake Helmboldt has announced two important meetings coming up next week.  Get out your calendar and get ready to comment and show support!

1. Citywide Bike Lane Public Meeting
Date: March 21, 2017
Time: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Location: Main Library, 101 E. Franklin Street

This is a follow up to the November meeting where initial plans were presented for several new bike lanes: Westover Hills Boulevard, Semmes Avenue, Brook Road, Williamsburg Avenue/Road, Franklin Street, Patterson Avenue, and Malvern Avenue.  The plans are now at 90%, which means there will only be smaller changes at this point, but sometimes small changes can make a big difference!

See the city’s bike-ped site for details, including renderings of the options presented at the last meeting (scroll down).

2. Community Stakeholder Meeting, 1st Street and 2nd Street Bike Lanes
Date: March 20, 2017
Time: 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Location: The Hippodrome, 528 N. 2nd Street

This meeting is outreach to “stakeholders” to discuss the impacts and advantages of a pair of bike lanes planned for 1st and 2nd streets (they are both one-way streets).  The original announcement includes residents, employees, and business owners in Jackson Ward and/or along 1st Street and 2ndStreet downtown as stakeholders, but I would say if you do or might bike along that route, you are a stakeholder too.

It’s important that we make the case to Council Representative Kim Gray and her constituents in this area that these lanes will be beneficial.
